Château Les Fontenelles

JPL-10-16-66581BD[1]The Château les Fontenelles is located in Saint Julien d’Eymet, at the heart of the Dordogne. The property is located south of Monbazillac and Bergerac, a few kilometres away from the Lot et Garonne department.

Authenticity, quality and natural… those are values that the wines of the Château Les Fontenelles share with their owner Nicolas Bourdil and his family. This vineyard of Bergerac of 28 hectares is located on an exceptional land of hillsides with a diversity of white grape varieties (Sauvignon, Sémillon, Muscadelle, Chenin) and a majority of red grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec).

Nicolas represents the third generation of winegrowers at Château les Fontenelles. At 21, he decided to set up and vinify his wines directly at the property, a real transformation then commits on the property. In 1999, after his studies, Nicolas invests in his own winery with the support of his parents: this would then become his chosen field! Since the vintage of 2000, he has a lot of ability to express the characteristics of his terroir, regularly rewarded for all of his wines.

A vineyard of hillsides

The 28 hectare vineyard is located on the slopes of Saint Julien, exposed to a large extent towards the South, to allow a maximum sunlight for the grapes from July to September.

The exceptional land of the domain is divided into two slopes:

• a slope on the eastern side with a very clayish and stony soil, where the majority of the white Sauvignon and Sémillon grape varieties are planted, i.e. 13.5 hectares
• the other slope on the west side, where an old windmill stands, is made up of clay and small grave where our Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon reds ripen.

The wineries

The winery was built in one of the oldest and most authentic buildings.
Through the white stones and the large and exposed beams stands a battery of stainless steel tanks, with a total storage capacity of 270,000 liters, and which is partly thermoregulated.
This modern equipment allows them to select and vinify separately their plots to the vat. They thus ensure a traceability of their products from the vinification to the bottle.

Nicolas Bourdil and his family are happy to show you their wines and will be delighted to welcome you to share this philosophy and well-being.
